Mia Stilwell Hinchey
Mias abstract paintings are created with layers of marks made with paint, pastels, pencils and sometimes collage.
" I always begin my pieces with a playful spirt and a hope for the happy visual accident to occur. The work goes through many stages of destruction and renewal. It gives it the age and the life that I am ultimately looking for"
Mias works have a mixture of cold wax, oil paint, acrylic paint, pencil, water soluble crayons, and sometimes collage. "I mix many different materials and use various techniques. I allow the materials to haphazardly accumulate to a point where its all too much. This is where I stop and move to another piece. Later I come back with a fresh eye and then I begin to subtract. I am ultimately attempting have a visceral experience. I allow fate to have a part in the creation of the work.
